Nels Jacobson, a.k.a. Jagmo, has been creating distinctive hand-drawn and hand-cut poster designs for 25 years, from Austin’s Club Foot to The Fillmore in San Francisco. He’s produced hundreds of poster, for performers as diverse as Iggy, Ziggy, Roky, Toots, Divine, John Lee, Jerry Lee, Jerry Jeff, Jimmie Dale, Stevie Ray, Robert Earl, Larry Bud, Willie, Billy, Nils, Stills, PIL, BB, kd, X, and NRBQ.
After designing the original logo for SXSW, Jacobson served as SXSW art director for its first 6 years. In 1987, he helped organize the Texas-USSR Musicians’ Exchange, and as tour manager accompanied the musicians to Helsinki, Leningrad, Kiev and Moscow.
Jacobson is a founding board member of the American Poster Institute, a board member of The Rock Poster Society (TRPS), and he has written and spoken extensively about poster art. He served for several years on the CD-packaging GRAMMY committee for both the Texas and San Francisco Chapters of the Recording Academy. Since 1995, in addition to his design work, Nels has been practicing copyright and trademark law. And he still loves to create posters dammit!
